In the future I hope to expand this section with more articles, links and possibly case studies based on my experience. In the meanwhile, some reference links:

  • W3Schools.com - A great place to get started learning web coding...
  • Joomla.org and Drupal.org - Powerful and flexible open-source web content-management systems I used to develop cue-network.org and fashiontrotter.com, respectively. Although each has its quirks, it's a lot easier to develop a full-featured web publishing site with one of these open-source systems than to create one from scratch... If you're looking to create more of a straight-forward "blog" site, Wordpress is worth a look, although I've yet to use it myself...
  • Macworld.com - one of my daily reads along with NYTimes.com and LATimes.com, has a lot of tech news from it's partner publications as well...
  • Google Analytics - A free, powerful tool that gives everyone a way to get insights into their web traffic... (all you have to do is add a line of Javascript to your site and connect it to your Google account...) I similarly like and use their webmaster tools.
  • Useit.com - An analyst who writes some very interesting articles/research on user experience. Ironically, he's often criticized for having an unattractive site...
  • Wikipedia's article on Search Engine Optimization - This article goes into some of the history and controversy... I confess SEO is not my area of expertise, but I'm often asked about it. It's my understanding that the most important parts of legitimate "search engine optimization" include giving all html pages descriptive titles, and adding basic metatag information (keywords — a list of one-word, non-repetitive keywords separated by commas — and descriptions — a one-sentance plain english description which will show up in the search results — are most important) and also putting descriptive alt-text in images. XML sitemaps and publishing/distributing RSS feeds may also help broaden your reach, as can adding links to make it easier to share your content on social networking and bookmarking sites.
